Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about how I work — from estimates and payments to timelines and materials. Clear answers, no jargon.

  • In construction, no two projects are exactly the same — and sometimes what’s under the surface can’t be seen until work begins. We provide estimates to give you a clear idea of expected costs based on your project’s current scope, materials, and timelines. However, things like site conditions, design changes, or unexpected structural issues can affect the final price.

An estimate ensures we stay flexible and fair, giving you room to make informed choices as the project progresses, without locking you into a price that might not reflect the real work involved.

  • A: In most cases, yes — estimates are free for standard jobs.

However, I may charge for time-consuming or specialist estimates, such as:

    • Insurance-related claims

    • Site visits for properties you're considering buying

    • Complex or multi-trade projects

If a fee applies, I’ll always tell you beforehand — no surprises.

  • A: Yes. I carry full public liability insurance and follow all current health and safety practices on-site.

  • I understand — there's a lot of online advice warning against paying Builders upfront. But here’s the reality:

For most projects, an initial payment is needed to cover materials and secure your place in the schedule. It’s not about trust — it’s about making sure your job starts on time, with everything ready to go.

🔧 The truth? Whether materials are paid upfront or on account, they still have to be paid for — and the builder is responsible for those costs. Delays in customer payments can cause major hold-ups, not just to your job, but to others booked in after you.

Sadly, just as there are rogue traders, there are also rogue clients — and upfront payments protect both parties. They ensure your materials are secured, your date is locked in, and the project runs smoothly from the start.

I’m always fully transparent about costs. You’ll get a clear estimate, a written contract, and confirmation of exactly what your initial payment covers — no surprises.

  • A: You can — but I always recommend using trade-grade materials that I know and trust. If you’d like to source something yourself, let me know beforehand so we can make sure it’s suitable.

  • A: I usually work alone and I hold an up to date DBS certificate , but for larger jobs I may bring in trusted subcontractors. I always let you know in advance — and I stay on-site to manage the work and make sure everything runs smoothly.

  • A: Every job is different, but I always give a realistic timeframe when quoting. If something changes (like weather or hidden damage), I’ll keep you updated every step of the way.

  • A: Usually, yes — though it depends on the type of job. I’ll always discuss this with you beforehand so you can plan around any disruption.

  • A: I’m based in Hindhead, and usually cover Surrey, West Sussex and parts of Hampshire. If you're just outside that, feel free to ask — I may still be able to help.

  • A: You can call, message, or use the Contact form on the website — whichever’s easiest. I aim to respond within 24–48 hours.

  • Head to the Contact page or drop me a message — I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.
